Understanding Your Eye Health

Your eyes are an essential part of your body. Without them, you would not be able to comfortably or effectively accomplish day to day activities; that is why you should take great care of them. Here are some of the things you should know to ensure your eyes remain healthy:

What Foods Improve Your Eye Health?

You need vitamin C, E and A, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, lutein, etc. You can get these from foods like nuts, eggs, citrus fruits, pork, oysters, vegetables, tuna, salmon, etc. Sometimes, but through the guidance of your eye doctor, you can get a prescription for medication aimed at providing you with vitamin C, E and A, omega-3 fatty acids and zinc. This is mostly for those people whose body finds it difficult to absorb the nutrients mentioned above or need to boost the intake sourced from the different foods mentioned above.

Eye Safety Tips

First, stop smoking if you already have the habit. You should also stop looking at your mobile or computer screen for long hours; these activities quicken eye damage. If there is a lot of sunshine, avoid staring at the sun. Its harmful UV rays can damage your eyes; wear sunglasses when needed. Lastly, when conducting any work that puts your eyes at risk of injury, always wear protective gear. Such gear may include a face protection mask, shield or eye protection goggles.

What Signs Should You Look Out for?

Common eye problem symptoms you should look out for include blurry vision, reading difficulty, finding yourself squinting to see clearly, difficulty seeing at night, not seeing objects that are far or near, double vision, foggy vision, black spots in your vision, pain or discomfort in your eye, a consistent headache that seems to be emanating from your eye(s), loss of vision in one or both eyes, etc.

If you experience any of the symptoms mentioned above, it might be time to visit an eye care clinic. Do not wait for too long before visiting the clinic because some eye conditions are better treated early. If you wait too long, you might need extensive treatment involving expensive eye surgery or your eye problem may progress to a worse state that might lead to permanent blindness.

When Should You Visit an Eye Care Clinic?

As early as when you are a child, your parent should find a qualified and licensed eye doctor (optometrist) for you. The optometrist examines your eye to ensure it is developing healthily and that there are no underlying conditions that may affect your vision at that time or in the future. The optometrist can then establish an eye care visit schedule as you grow for regular monitoring; that way, problems can be caught early. They can also offer professional advice on how you can care for your eyes in terms of diet, medication and cleanliness.

Advice For Dealing With Dry Eye

Dry eyes are such an irritant which can be likened to the gritty feeling you get when sand gets in your eyes. I have dealt with dry eye for years. Firstly, it struck when wearing my contact lenses, and then it became a problem during menopause. I decided to start this blog because there are a number of ways you can get relief for your eyes. I want to share tips about diet changes which increase eye health, what types of dry eye products at the chemist work best, and also how to limit the impact dry eye has on your life. Don't forget to keep up with your annual optometrist eye check to help nip this condition in the bud.
